I'll have to drink about it
I guess I should probably tell you all about Mendoza…
Well, what’d you think I was going to say… of COURSE it was amazing!!
It took a few days for me to wind down after our wine-down, wrap my head around a few things, and get laundry done in time to pack for BA (how TF is it already almost June?). I’m trying to figure out how to write this post; bullet-points? Two cents? Paragraphs and paragraphs of detail that will make your mouth drool?? How about just some grade-B photos from my trusty iPhone?
Our humble abode for the weekend:
Day 1 Eve: The NeverEnding Dinner
Day 1: Matervini
Good looking sommelier, Franco, who turned out to be gay (much to our dismay)
The ladies plus Mauricio, our savior of a guide, whose family has lived in Mendoza for 350 years.
Huarpe; a family friend-of-a-friend treated us to a vineyard side 'Asado' cooked by her personal chef.
Maybe I should have used my science degree to be a wine-maker...
Asado time! The best steak and blue cheese I've ever put in my mouth.
RJ Vinedos; where we met RJ (Raul Joffre) himself, picked bottles from his private reserve selection, and had them signed.
Mmm... chocolate pairing
How we spent our afternoons by the fire; wine, wine, more wine.
Day 2: Finca La Anita; closed to the public for now, Mariela was a wonderful host and sommelier who got us a little tipsy at 11am.
Ruca Malen; the best scenery all weekend.
Lunch views
Kaiken and their farm animals (ducks, sheep, dogs, etc.)
Day 3: When our flight gets delayed 3+ hours, we go to the hot springs!
Mendoza 100% gives Napa a run for its money. The small european-influenced countryside has class, history and the best food and wine I've had all year. I would gladly return to those beautiful vines, mountains and a fabulous Argentinian malbec any day.
