Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day

I'm a day late with my two cents, lo siento. I got busy doing actual activities yesterday since I was sick AGAIN over the weekend. Still unsure of the culprit. Altitude? Food? The llama I touched last week gave me some sort of bacterial-can't-stop-vomiting disease? Who knows. Finished OA and am now on season two of Downton Abbey- I'm obsessed. Anyways, missed a lot of fun stuff, but was actually able to make up for most of it Monday and Tuesday (thank God for this group of people who plan stuff 24/7). I also attended a talk on the conflict in Colombia where we learned about the guerrilla groups/movements, like FARC, and the steps being taken towards peace. #Informed.

Fun fact: a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Colombia Monday and apparently flights at the Bogotá airport were momentarily halted. I, on the other hand, did not feel a thing because I was walking back from 6:15am hot yoga and was probably too lightheaded to realize it was the ground moving and not my jelly-legs.

My two cents this week:

1. If you watch the Super Bowl in South America, you won't get the highly anticipated SB commercials. We only had ads for pasta and motorcycles, so that was slightly disappointing. So was the outcome of the game, but I digress.

2. Mozzarella sticks in Colombia are full on BRICKS of cheese with breading. I'm talking the thickness of a stick of butter, and then some. Don't order unless you want a cheese block (pun intended).

3. There are no seatbelts, or seats for that matter, on the train up to the top of Monserrate, so if somehow the contraption should come off its track, you will 1000% die. The good news is that it's totally worth the ride- spectacular views from 10,000ft! (See Colombia photo gallery for more shots from the top)

4. If you're ever in Bogotá, a horseback tour of the mountain countryside is a MUST. The scenery left me speechless and I was very impressed by my horse's ability to climb a rocky hillside and not fall. I loved her <3

Sidenote: We had a foal following its mom and our group during the trek. So stinkin' cute. (Hi Bharath and drone-that-scared-the-horses)

5. Now that my illness has seemingly subsided, I've been able to get out and walk around Chico (our neighborhood in Bogotá) quite a bit. I know my way around much sooner than I did in Mexico City, and I can pretty much get to all the hot spots without using my mapp! As much as I loved CDMX, Bogotá has really grown on me. There's something to be said about how accessible everything is (except Uber). We're in the middle of the city, yet you can get to the mountains/countryside in about 45 minutes or less. It has been sunny and warm every day (contrary to the rainy cold I was prepared for), y estoy muy contento. Bye Pedialyte!!!
