Two Cents Tuesday: Banana Chips
Well I made it to Mexico City alive, sort of. If you're going to do remote year, try not to get deathly ill beforehand, or else you'll act like a boring, manly sounding, wet blanket during the first meet-and-greet and then be stuck in your apartment your first full day in the city trying to rapidly nurse yourself back to health (enter: sudafed, afrin, zicam, airborne, benadryl and lots of tissues). Then you'll also get your roommate sick.
In other news, we've had two awesome rooftop Meraki meet ups over the last couple days. Drank a few cervezas, ate some delicious tacos and attempted to learn names, which resulted in asking the same person at least 3-5 times over (or using weird mnemonics like, James with the hat, Molly from Raleigh, Austin-not-from-Austin). Last night we celebrated Meraki New Year (think, 80 sparklers going at once and trying not to catch fire); we are the first RY group to travel over a full calendar year (all of 2017), AND we're the largest group RY has launched to date.
Here are my two cents so far:
1. always pack a carry-on bag with a day's (or three) worth of clothes/underwear/toothbrush/shampoo in case the airline loses your bag (yeah that happened)
1b. don't worry, my luggage was recovered and I *should* be getting my stuff sometime later today.
2. brushing your teeth with bottled water is strange.
3. 'Slack'- our means of communication for the year- is both a good and bad thing. Great for staying in the loop, but V DISTRACTING.
4. banana chips with hot sauce are the best snack ever (thanks for being my lunch when I was sick).
5. It's going to be a great year, shared with great people.
If you're wondering where I'll be living for the next month, here's a quick tour of our cute little apartment here in the Hipodromo/Condesa area
