CDMX wrap-up

CDMX wrap-up

We're 29 days into RY and I can't imagine this year of my life unfolding any other way. In the last four weeks I've made dozens of new friends, tried mezcal, mole and micheladas, cheered on Lucha Libre fights, been cleansed by a Mexican shaman, danced the nights away in Playa del Carmen, eaten at two of the 50 best restaurants in the world, experienced a Temazcal sweat lodge ritual, explored markets and street food stalls, popped champagne in a hot air balloon at sunrise, climbed an Aztec pyramid, hiked a 7,500ft mountain, floated the canals of Xochimilco, completed a 7-day taco diet, and made it to South America in one piece (with my luggage this time)!

It was bittersweet leaving Mexico City because I undoubtedly fell in love with that place.  If you know me, you know that I am infatuated by big cities and the accompanying fast-paced lifestyle. CDMX combines a big city feel with the historical architecture, vegetation, and endearing personalities of a small town. Mexico City is the largest city I've ever lived in, but in my quaint Condesa neighborhood, I had never felt more at home. We have 11 cities to go, and they all have a lot to live up to. That being said, Bogota and Medellin will bring new adventures and experiences unique to Colombia, and hopefully lots of dancing ;)

Below are some of my favorite spots in CDMX.

Restaurantes

Pujol: 25th best restaurant in the world. Need I say more?

El Califa: Incredible tacos, open late-night (surprisingly packed after 10).

Aqua y Sal: Elegant (they will put the napkin in your lap for you) and delicious seafood restaurant. The squid-ink fettucine with prawns is fab.

Los Loosers: Phenomenal vegan lunch. Delivery or pickup, just order through the Facebook page.

Cafes

Rococo Cafe: coffee shop muy pequeña (small), but cozy and has yummy lattes and wifi.

Chiquitito Cafe: This was a recommendation by a local. Also small, but a great spot to work from a sidewalk table. Also good wifi.

Bars & Clubs

Hookah Sante Fe / Hookah Lounge (on calle Campeche in Hipodromo): Santa Fe is BOUJI but baller, with outdoor fire pits and a great view of the surrounding city. The local Hookah Lounge boasts a better vibe (in my opinion) with a small dance floor and techno style DJs late-night. More intimate setting, with the same great drinks/food.

Cosmos Polanco: Night club that pretty much doesn't close and people are still lining up to go in at 4:30am. Cool scene, locals, bottle service is a must (just go with a big group).

Meraki, you are my people. Thank you for an incredible first month.
