Do it for the Loosers

Do it for the Loosers

I'd like to share a story about a mujer (woman) named Mariana. Years ago she had many friends who most would label 'normal'. Mariana was a cyclist, a vegan, and a little bit different than her friends. She still joined her friends at outings and when they would order tacos, she would eat tortillas con salt y salsa. One day, one of these "friends" said to her, 'Why do you do this? Why won't you eat meat like the rest of us? Why are you different?' And in front of 20 of these other "friends", loudly and openly called her a loser. No one stood up for her. Shocked, but not shaken, Mariana decided, sure, if being different makes me a loser, than I am a loser.

Today, Mariana owns her own business: the first and original vegan bike delivery in Mexico City. She is happy, successful, and creates delicious and unique vegan food masterpieces to be delivered all over CDMX to anyone who places an order. This vegan bike delivery business is appropriately named "Los Loosers" (two O's for the bike wheels) and vehemently embraces the ideology that different is good.

Different is good.

We're all losers in our own ways and instead of conforming to the status quo, Mariana took her individuality and ran (or biked) with it. Of late, I have strived to identify and appreciate my differences so that my personality can shine through in a world of similarity. I still draw inspiration from my surroundings, but I try to make it my own- whether it be the clothes I wear, or the attitude I embody on a daily basis. Being a 'loser' is the new cool.

By the way, the guy who called Mariana a loser is currently unemployed and asked her for a job about a month ago.
