Two Cents Tuesday: Sushi de Mexico
So far I think I've eaten more Asian food than Mexican. Sushi is great here so don't let TripAdvisor tell you otherwise. The restaurant scene in CDMX is incredible- I can find an amazing place to eat on just about every corner or street. There's sushi, Lebanese, panini stores, Argentinian, street food, tacos everywhere (obviously), vegan places, cafes with amazing coffee and wifi, and just about everything else you can imagine. As far as sushi goes, it's like, $6 per roll at a nice place...muy barato (or muy cheapo, as I like to say in my ever-improving Spanglish).
My two cents this week:
1. I think Montezuma's Revenge is dead. *knock on wood* It has been ten days and I have had zero problemas.
2. Speaking in Spanish is fun. Yes, I use Google translate on occasion (ok, a lot), but it's super rewarding when you're able to have a brief conversation with your Uber driver about why you're in the city and for how long, etc.
3. Everyone here is environmentally conscious and it makes me wonder why we can't be more like this in the U.S. My friends know I've been walking happily to the local supermarket with my bolsa verde (reusable grocery bag) every week.
4. You can totally smuggle food into foreign countries. Example A) Last night's traditional Spanish dinner party hosted by two of my favorites, Alberto y David, consisted of completely authentic items. Apparently, Alberto snuck (sneaked?) meats, cheeses, and even Spanish honeyed rum into Mexico for us to try. Muy delicioso. He has also smuggled an entire leg of lamb (hoof intact) back to San Francisco from Spain.
(Not pictured: Alberto or David)
5. I am 100% in honeymoon phase. Most of us are. They (RY) warned us about this, but I'm riding the highs and I'll dig the lows later. Life is good.
Next stop, Lucha Libre and Playa del Carmen.
